What week is it? It's Shark Week, of course. But it's also Bikeshare week, and if you put together sharks and free bikes, you get the most wonderful week of the year!

Albany Bikeshare Week, according to capitalmoves.org, is designed to allow even non-bicycle owners to enjoy the thrill of riding a bicycle for free.

Here's how it works:

  • 25 bicycles are available for use from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at three locations: Washington Park (near Hudson Avenue and Washington Park Road); Lark Street (between Washington and Madison Avenues; and Tricentennial Square in downtown Albany (between Steuben and Columbia Streets)
  • You must register to "rent" the bike (which includes giving a credit card to be used as a security deposit, although there is no charge to use the bikes). You can preregister here, but you still need to show up at the sign-in table at Tricentennial Square to get your bike
  • You can get more information here

Happy bicycling!
