For six generations a family in Schoharie County had been running a small dairy farm in Middleburgh, NY. A farm that was started by the Barber family in 1875 and produced milk has just recently switched things up BIG TIME.

After producing milk for generations the 25 year old, 6th generation Barber farmer and recent Cornell Graduate decided to take the farm in a different direction and now instead of producing milk is producing the nectar of the gods ha ha just kidding their making vodka. Which has to be at the very least a gift from the gods right?

Apparently at one point in time there were potatoes growing on their land as part of one of Barbers grandfather's 4H projects and since things in the milk business weren't going so well the fam decided to take those potatoes along with water from a spring above their farm and to make delicious batches of 80 proof vodka. The end result 1857 Potato Vodka! Now that's the kind of farming this girl could get behind! I think I need to plan a little day trip to go check out the facility and do a little tasting. If you're thinking the same think you can get all the details on their website.

The whole progression of the farms transformation and all it's history is actually really interesting. If you want to learn more check out this piece from News10 ...
