E. Coli Outbreak Hits New York State – See What’s Been Recalled Here

It amazes me sometimes that with as much technology that we have now-a-days that something like E. Coli can still contaminate food in a factory and it get out to the public.

Farm Rich Chicken Quesadillas are the culprit this time and one such infection was found in New York. The company has since recalled 196,222 pounds of the quesadillas, along with other mini meals and snack items.

According to Reuters: the outbreak is a strain of Shiga toxin-producing escherichia coli O121, or STEC O121, and has been reported in 15 states. On the plus side, only 8 are sick and no one has died thus far.

The Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration, along with the CDC, are investigation the source of the infection.

Rich Products has been informed by the USDA that Farm Rich Mini Quesadillas, Farm Rich Philly Cheese Steaks, Farm Rich Mini Pizza Slices and Farm Rich Mozzarella Bites produced from Nov. 12-19, 2012 may be contaminated with E. Coli. See details below.

Please note, each of our product packages contain cooking instructions that, if followed, will effectively destroy any E.Coli bacteria. These preparation instructions have been validated following the Grocery Manufacturers Association industry protocol to ensure food safety. 

Consumer safety is our number one priority and we are voluntarily recalling these products effective immediately. 

If you currently have a package in your freezer with the affected Best By Date, please discard it.  We’ll be happy to provide you with a replacement product coupon and or a refund.
