Watch ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past”s Opening Battle

A minute-long clip from the upcoming ’X-Men: Days of Future Past‘ premiered on the 2014 MTV Movie Awards last night, and it’s kinda awesome.

It also gives us a glimpse at what this future is going to like in the movie, which opens on May 23. The story this time, which is based on a popular arc from the comics, is all about a period in which the evil Sentinels wipe out all traces of mutants.

The opening battle scene, which you can watch above, features heroes Kitty Pryde, Blink, Bishop, Warpath and Iceman fighting off an incoming swarms of baddies. There’s lots of explosions and portals — always a good sign.
