Can you imagine a world where teenagers weren't glued to their cell phones all the time? No? Me neither.

There's a bill introduced by Vermont Senator John Rodgers that would make possession of a cell phone by anyone under the age of 21 illegal. If your under 21 and your caught with a cell phone you could be fined $1000. His reasoning behind the bill is this accroding to www.cds6albany.com.

"In light of the dangerous and life-threatening consequences of cell phone use by young people, it is clear that persons under 21 years of age are not developmentally mature enough to safely possess them, just as the General Assembly has concluded that persons under 21 years of age are not mature enough to possess firearms, smoke cigarettes, or consume alcohol,"

It's a dumb bill that has absolutely NO chance of passing in Vermont or any other state, but that's not what tickets me off about this kind of bill. It's that Senator John Rodgers said himself that he knows that there's no chance of this bill passing. He proposed it just to make a point.

Well thanks a lot Senator! Don't you think that we have enough wasted time in government without bills that have no chance of getting passed taking up valuable time gumming up the works? It's one of the things that's wrong with politics and government in our country...so much energy is wasted on stuff that doesn't matter. We need less bills "to make a point" and more bills that make a difference.
