Being that it's the summer, many of us are ready to hit the beaches. The problem; Upstate New York is located inland. So where is the best spot to visit the ocean?Obviously we have plenty of lakes and rivers in the Albany area, but it's just not the same as sitting in the sand, hearing the waves crashing down on the shore. I recently visited Cape Cod, where I stayed in Dennisport, Massachusetts.

This is a great spot, but there are a lot of other places to hit up some beaches as well. The Albany area is far, but not too far from several different beaches. Depending on how far you are willing to drive, you have options.

Many Albany folks hit up the Cape Cod area like I did, but many head south the New Jersey. Jersey has a ton of beaches to hit up. Rhode Island also has some great ocean spots near Newport. Anyone who has visited Maine during the summer months will tell you that it's a beautiful spot to get some sun. Let's not forget Connecticut. They also have some great beaches within just a couple of hours of Albany.
