Can we please come to some sort of agreement on something here?!?

Apparently lawmakers are entering the final weeks of the 2016 legislative session (okay?) and the fight for Uber to expand outside of New York City and into the rest of the state is beginning to escalate.

Now I know there has been a lot of issues with local governments about insurance and regulations and how Uber generally operates all across the states but something has got to give here. They obviously have an extremely convenient platform that consumers want and need and in some places rely on. There has got to be a point where  a common ground can be found and we can make this happen already.

At this point their is a proposal circulating that according to WTEN:

Would allow local governments to craft regulations for their own communities.

Which would be great but the cab companies are now rallying against it and are worried about damage to their industry apparently saying:

Lawmakers should require Uber to fingerprint drivers and make cars accessible to disabled passengers before signing off on the expansion.

Which I don't necessarily disagree with however, I'm not sure how not doing that will damage their industry... anyway ...

Here's my thoughts on the cab companies ... if they're so worried they should develop an app that's just as convenient and accessible. That allows the user to see the price of their trip, the driver, the driver and car info, and feel comfortable and in control ... Last time I took a cab in downtown Albany it was super sketchy. The cabbie showed up 30 -40 minutes after I called for it, with his girlfriend in the front seat (whatever) and they had very obviously just finished smoking (and I'm not talking cigarettes people), but then instead of heading to my destination the dude drove in the opposite direction to pick up some other guy with a puppy and no one even bothered to ask if i minded! I was seriously confused and definitely changed my mind about having them stop at an ATM before hand.

However, if they had an app that tracked your trips and was equipped with all the same amenities at competitive prices and such I'd totally use it too. I've only used ride share apps like Uber and Lyft when I'm traveling (obviously) and they're constantly sending promo codes for free rides and such so I often switch between them.

Now let's get all this legal mumbo jumbo taken care of so we can ride safely and affordably ... and do it soon!
