The Capital Region is getting another reason to not have to cook ... or leave the house for that matter.

If you are one of the many of us that are culinarily challenged, happen to lead a busy life, or don't just feel like cooking from time to time there is now a new option for food delivery in Albany.

The ride sharing service Uber just launched their free Uber Eats App that will let you order food with your Uber account and have it delivered from about 15 restaurants so far in the Albany area. Some of those restaurants have not had a delivery option up until now and some are exclusive to Uber Eats. Restaurants like El Mariachi and the Albany Pump Station.

To use Uber Eats all you have to do is download the app, scroll through the restaurants, place your order and for a $5.99 flat rate an Uber driver will go and get your dinner for you.

I'm kind of curious what exactly the difference is between Uber Eats and Grubhub besides a few exclusive restaurants and a pretty large price difference. $6 is a pretty hefty price tag when you compare it to the free to $3 range of delivery charge you usually find on Grubhub. The only thing I can imagine is that it is quicker but I'm skeptical on how much quicker it could actually be because the restaurants still need to cook the food and the drivers still need to go pick it up and then bring it to you. I suppose I will just have to try it out and see.

So far Uber Eats is only available in Albany but it is expected to expand throughout the Capital Region. If you want to check out a full list of restaurants available so far you can do so by clicking HERE.

What do you think? Will you be trying the new delivery option?
