This year, New York state upped the penalties for being caught texting and driving-with good reason too. Last week a distracted driving took out several cows in a herd crossing a rural street, all thanks to her texting.

According to witnesses, the 21-year-old woman was driving down a road in Wawayanda when she would collide with a herd of cows crossing the road.

Reports vary of how many cows were hit, but at least three were seriously injured and one cow was thrown five feet in the air. A farm hand who was trying to warn the woman was nearly hit as well in the crash.

The driver claims she was checking an incoming call but witnesses say she was texting behind the wheel.
