‘Super Troopers 2′ is Finally Happening…For Real This Time!
'Super Troopers' was a modest success when it was released back in 2001, but time has been kind to it. The film steadily became a cult favorite and by the later half of the decade, you couldn't even walk into a college dorm room without tripping over a copy of the DVD. Although the Broken Lizard comedy troupe has gone on to make other movies with mixed success, fans have been eagerly anticipating the return of these hilariously incompetent cops in 'Super Troopers 2'.
And now it's happening.
Broken Lizard players Kevin Heffernan and Steve Lemme recently went on the "Chewin' It With Kevin and Steve" podcast (via IGN), where they revealed that 'Super Troopers 2' is really moving forward following a decade-plus of false starts, rumors and dashed hopes. In fact, the only thing really missing from the equation is the money. Lemme provided details:
The script is written, the deal has been agreed on with the studio, we are in the stage though where we need to raise the financing. It's nothing out of the ordinary. The studio is just the distributor and we are the ones who have to bring the money to the table. So it's a lot of money that we have to raise.
That's a pretty standard situation for a film to be in. After all, the only thing harder than making a movie is actually finding the money that will help you make the movie in the first place. Considering the first film's reputation and the fact that it shouldn't cost too much to make, we have a hard time seeing 'Super Troopers 2' not getting made in some capacity.
Additional details are unknown at the moment, but we imagine that the sequel would see the return of every original cast member and director Jay Chandrasekhar. After all, it wouldn't be a Broken Lizard movie unless you actually got the gang back together.
