Red Hot Chili Peppers are back! The band has been working on new music over the past year and the first taste that fans are getting today is a song called "Dark Necessities" off their forthcoming album, The Getaway.

The track starts off sounding like something outside of the band's wheelhouse, but eventually the familiar Flea bass funkiness kicks in and Anthony Kiedis' tongue-twisty delivery covers the more melodic effort.

The song is featured on the band's upcoming album, The Getaway, due June 17. The album is available to pre-order in a number of options, including CD, vinyl and cassette, via the band's website, and fans will immediately receive "Dark Necessities" upon ordering the disc. Check out The Getaway track listing below.

Last fall, Anthony Kiedis said of the band's new music, "We’ve been writing new music for the last year, and we’ve written some songs that I feel are as good as any songs we’ve ever written. We’re just dying to play the new songs — but we can’t, because every single human has a recording device on them at all times.” He went on to praise producer Danger Mouse, adding, “He’s very good about coming up with super-modern ideas, but he’ll also touch on the acoustic guitar in the control room and strip the song down to its acoustic essentials, which is a beautiful place to be.”

The band has also started mapping out tour dates in support of The Getaway, beginning with a May 14 stop headlining the annual SoCal Weenie Roast radio festival in Irvine, Calif. Dates can be found here.
