If you've been keeping up with the reboot of FOX's classic series The X-Files and you're a punk music fan, you may have noticed a familiar face. Rancid vocalist Tim Armstrong played a pivotal role in this past Monday's episode.

In the episode, titled Home Again, Mulder and Scully are called to the scene of a grizzly death where a city official has lost his arms and been decapitated just a few hours after warning the homeless in a certain area of the city that they're going to be moved out for cleaning. It's soon learned that a gigantic figure known as "band-aid nose man" appears to be behind a series of slayings, all related to protecting the homeless.

In the midst of their investigation, Mulder and Scully come across a homeless artist named Trashman played by Armstrong who has ties to the avenger. "I feel like Trashman has good intentions, he's just misdirected a little bit," says Armstrong in the featurette above.

So how did Armstrong end up with a role in the series revival? The rocker says that episode writer/director Glen Morgan reached out to him with him in mind for the role. "I couldn't say no cause X-Files is one of my favorite shows of all-time," says Armstrong.

The limited-run X-Files reboot airs Mondays at 8PM ET/PT on FOX, with only a couple of episodes left.
