Yes, it has been several years since Rage Against the Machine staged the L.A. Rising festival and even longer since they released any music. But don't count the band over just yet. Bassist Tim Commerford left the door open for future Rage Against the Machine appearances in the future in a chat with Rolling Stone.

The topic of Rage Against the Machine's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame chances led to Commerford's revelation about their status. He stated, "It would be funny to me if we got in there. I don't know that I would go because I look at that as, if you want to take part in that, you're admitting that you're no longer relevant. You're saying, 'OK, I'm done. Look, I made it.'"

He went on to add that if they were inducted, it would be interesting to see who showed up. When asked if they would play, he stated, "Anything's possible. We are still a band and we still might play again. We don't have anything scheduled right now, but you never know what the future will bring." The bassist bristled at the idea that Rage Against the Machine were finished, adding that he saw a recent reference to himself in an article as the "former Rage Against the Machine bassist." "I was like, 'F--- you, man,'" says Commerford. "I still play bass in that band. I'm not the 'former' guy. I'm the guy."

As for his relationship with the other members, he reveals that both Zack de la Rocha and Tom Morello were in attendance at the first show of his new band Wakrat. He added, "Zack is my biggest fan and supporter right now. What I'm doing musically is his s--t and what he's an expert on. He and I talked for two hours after the show. He loves what I'm doing. I asked him to play a guitar solo for this track I'm working on and he was like, 'Oh, I'm in.'"

Commerford also revealed that de la Rocha, who appeared with Run the Jewels over the past year, has been hard at work in his home studio working on a One Day as a Lion album.
