It's been an interesting week for Nickelback, but things are certainly looking up today, as their latest LP Feed the Machine has charted on the Billboard Top 200 at No. 5. In addition to its lofty chart spot, the album was also No. 4 on the Top Current Albums chart, No. 2 on the US Rock and Independent Albums chart, and No. 1 on the Hard Rock chart.

In total, the album sold 47,000 equivalent album units (of which 43,000 were traditional album sales). It's the band's first record through BMG. Their previous album, 2014's No Fixed Address, moved 80,000 units in its first week; 2011's Here and Now shifted 227,000 its first week out; 2008's Dark Horse had 326,000 first-week sales; and 2005's All The Right Reasons sold 323,000 albums in its first week.

Earlier this year, the band enjoyed more success when their album All the Right Reasons had the rare distinction of being certified Diamond from the RIAA, a feat entailing the album has sold ten million copies in the United States. Feed the Machine marks Nickelback's seventh record in the Top 10 position on the Billboard Top 200 Albums list.

Feed the Machine has birthed a variety of singles for the band, including the heavier title track that came with a dystopian music video, "Song on Fire," which has a more spiritual vibe and their latest song, the catchy rocker "Must Be Nice."

Last week, singer Chad Kroeger came under fire in an interview when he sent barbs at Slipknot's Corey Taylor, after saying, “I can’t think of another band that’s as diverse as we are. I can’t. And I don’t think that’s me talking from pride or ego.” Later in the interview, he went at Taylor after the interviewer brought up Stone Sour's musical diversity, when Kroeger said, "Yeah, because they’re trying to be Nickelback.” Kroeger noted how Taylor has said “some really nasty things” about him publicly. Implying that the Stone Sour singer had called writing a hit song easy, the Nickelback frontman implored Taylor, “Well, show me. Show me. Write one. I have yet to hear one.”

Nickelback will be embarking on tour this summer through North America with support from Daughtry and Shaman's Harvest. You can find the dates at our 2017 guide to rock and metal tours.
