I don't know if you have noticed but there have been quite a few fatalities recently happening on New York state roadways where city workers and troopers have been hit while assisting someone on the side of the road.

To be honest I think it should pretty much be common sense that if you see someone pulled over on the side of the road you should switch switch lanes in order to avoid a potential accident. However, it seems that not everyone shares that same sentiment. So a few years back New York State instituted the "Move Over" law which requires drivers to do just that. Actually if you fail to do so while the police or a tow truck driver is on the side of the road you could be issued a citation.

Well the state has now extended the law to include recycling and garbage trucks as well. Which makes much sense to me. I mean there are literally guys hanging off the back of these trucks and hopping on and off of them every couple of feet to grab our trash (so we don't have to transport it to the dump ourselves). All to often we find ourselves in such a hurry to get where we are going that we kind of forget what danger you could be putting them in when you just fly by them on the street.

So here's a good reminder to slow down and give yourself some time and potentially save a life and yourself from getting a ticket or heaven for bid having to deal with that kind of guilt the rest of your life.
