Look Out! This New York Fountain Erupts into A Giant Ice Volcano

New York State is beautiful year round. Lake George and Saratoga Race Track in the Summer, the Adirondacks in the Fall, Hudson Valley in the spring and now that it's winter we can go skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing and maybe get a picture of our Ice Volcano!

Yes, New York has an Ice Volcano and it's one of the "coolest" things you will see this season.

If you want to see the ice volcano in person this winter, head to Letchworth State Park in Castile, New York, which is about a 4 hour drive from the Capital Region. Make a weekend out of it or just look at the pictures and video below.

There is a fountain at the Glen Iris Inn at Letchworth State Park that was built in the late 1800's. In the Winter months water is pulled from the trout pond through a pipe and out of the nozzle. According to the Glen Iris Facebook page, the pressure from the water coming downhill sends a spout flying continuously about 50 feet in the air.

If you’re planning a trip, the only way to see the fountain and falls is to enter the Castile gate at 6787 Denton Corners Road, Castile NY, turn right, and keep left at the tall, white obelisk. Remember to always admire the fountain from the safety of the lawn, never the ice.

Record height for this Ice Volcano is round 50 feet tall! How tall will the volcano get this Winter? The colder it gets, and it's been very cold this weekend, the taller the volcano gets.
