Jack LaLanne Dies At 96
The fitness guru passed away Sunday afternoon at his home in Moro Bay, California.
Jack LaLanne was going to the gym before GTL ever existed. He was pushing people across America to get up and get active. Apparently his fitness plan worked because he lived a long healthy life. LaLanne passed away on Sunday to to complications with pneumonia.
LaLanne leaves behind a legacy of being healthy and encouraging other to do the same. He is survived by his wife Elaine. They were married for 51 years. He is also survived by his 3 children.
Some of LaLannes most memorable moments were doing 1,000 push ups in 23 minutes at the age of 43. At age 60 he swam from Alcatraz to Fisherman’s Wharf in SanFrancisco while handcuffed, unbelievable. 10 years later he would do the same thing in Long Beach Harbor.
It’s a lifestyle, it’s something you do the rest of your life. How long are you going to keep breathing? How long do you keep eating? You just do it.
This guy was doing things at age 70 that most of us would have trouble doing at 25. His television work out show was a staple in house holds from the 1950’s to the 1970’s. California Governor and former body builder Arnold Schwarzenegger credits LaLanne with getting people up off their couches and working out at home, something that was unheard of for his time.
