Happy Birthday today (Sept. 22) to Whitesnake frontman David Coverdale. He’s 66. Other rockers celebrating include Joan Jett (59), Bulletboys singer Marq Torien (56), and singer Jesse James Dupree of Jackyl (55).

David Coverdale was frontman for Deep Purple from late 1973 until 1976, before forming Whitesnake out of England in 1978. The original Whitesnake lineup would feature David Coverdale on vocals, guitarists Micky Moody and Bernie Marsden, bassist Neil Murray, keyboardist Jon Lord, and drummer Ian Paice.  The band had a string of top 10 albums in the UK with Ready and Willing in1980, followed by 1981’s Come an’ Get It, 1982’s Saint’s & Sinners, and 1984’s Slide It InSlide It In would also become the band’s first album to chart in the U.S. selling 2 million copies and featuring the song “Slow an’ Easy” (a song co-written by Moody). The band would go through several lineup changes and have their biggest success with hit singles “Here I Go Again” and “Is This Love” off their 1987 album Whitesnake. David Coverdale continues to record and tour with Whitesnake. Cheers to one of the all time great lead vocalists and frontmen in rock, David Coverdale!
