I am a huge fan of The Lord of the Rings book series and the movies are three of my all time favorites.  Now it seems like things are taking a few steps in the right direction for production of The Hobbit.

Since Lord of the Rings: Return of the King there have been rumors of director Peter Jackson tackling another J.R.R Tolkein classic The Hobbit, the prequel to the Lord of the Rings.  Now it seems like rumors have been set aside and turned into reality.

I knew that Jackson had a script but ran into some trouble with the studio to make it.  He also ran into trouble in New Zealand with being able to work with the actors.  Now they have finally begun production and there is video to prove it.

When I saw this footage this morning I raised my arms as if experiencing victory.  This is a dorks dream come true.  Peter Jackson did such a great job with the 3 LOTR films that it only made sense for him to go back and do The Hobbit as well.  Much of the LOTR cast as returned to make the film.  No news of any kind of release date, but I would assume late 2012.  Lets just hope it happens before the world ends.
