It's been a long time since we've heard anything about a 'Dead Island' movie, based on the wildly popular videogame of the same name. Now, a few years after it was first announced, the 'Dead Island' movie has been brought back to life, with an aim to hit theaters as soon as next year.

Deadline reports that Occupant Entertainment and publisher Deep Silver have joined forces to finance and produce a 'Dead Island' movie, based on the hit zombie video game which originally made its debut in 2011. The game follows a group of people on a tropical island, who discover that they are immune to an infection that has turned everyone else into raging, violent zombies.

Lionsgate originally bought the rights back in 2011, but the film was delayed when the company merged with Summit, and the rights eventually reverted back to the publisher. The plan is now to put the film on the fast track, with a goal to begin production in early 2015 so that they can debut the film at the Berlin or Cannes film festivals. This means we could theoretically see a 'Dead Island' movie as soon as later next year.

Also coming next year is a sequel to the videogame, set in Venice Beach and promising a more lighthearted and comedic tone. But what do you guys think? Are you ready for a 'Dead Island' movie, or are you kind of over the whole zombie craze?
