After directing a string of critically acclaimed movies -- ‘Gone Girl,’ ‘The Social Network’ and ‘Fight Club’ included -- David Fincher will recall his days as a music video director for his next project: an HBO series centering around the ‘80s-era music video industry.

The comedy series has tentatively been dubbed ‘Living On Video’ and is only in the preliminary stages of production. (HBO has yet to green light the pilot.) However, Deadline reported that the show -- set in 1983 L.A. -- will focus on a college-dropout protagonist who lands a job as a production assistant at an MTV-like music video production company.

Before becoming known as a famed movie director, Fincher helmed music videos for Madonna’s ‘Express Yourself,’ Aerosmith’s ‘Janie’s Got a Gun,’ Billy Idol’s ‘Rock the Cradle of Love’ and more recently, Justin Timberlake’s video for ‘Suit and Tie.’
