Damon Albarn Announces Brief U.S. Tour Since He’s Gonna Be Here Anyway

Linda Brownlee

On the eve of the release of his debut solo album, Damon Albarn has added a few more dates to his U.S. tour. Well, it wasn’t really a tour in the first place. It was two shows, both festival performances: one at Governors Ball on June 6 and another at Bonnaroo on June 14.

Since he’s going to be in the country anyway, the Britpop legend has lined up a series of dates somewhat close to New York and Tennessee, where the two festivals take place. The first happens two days after Governors Ball at Irving Plaza in New York; the final one is just a day before his Bonnaroo performance, on June 13 at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre.

Albarn has been doing a pretty good job over the past few weeks getting the word out about his first proper solo album, ‘Everyday Robots.’ Even though the former Blur frontman has kept busy over the years with everything from world-music collaborations and compilations to Gorillaz, ‘Everyday Robots’ is his first official solo album.

And he’s been pimping the hell out of it on the radio, onstage and in some London bar with a bunch of drunken people who really like Blur’s ‘Parklife.’

There are only seven U.S. shows announced right now, but there’s a chance Albarn may extend that number to even more concerts — most likely later in 2014 — after the record is out and he gets some footing with it. Here are the shows:

06/06 - New York, NY – Governors Ball Music Festival
06/08 - New York, NY — Irving Plaza
06/09 - Boston, MA — Royale
06/10 - Baltimore, MD — Rams Head Live
06/12 - Raleigh, NC — Raleigh Memorial Auditorium
06/13 - Atlanta, GA — Fox Theatre
06/14 - Manchester, TN – Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival

And here’s the first single and video from ‘Everyday Robots,’ ‘Heavy Seas of Love,’ featuring the great Brian Eno on vocals.
