‘Battleship’ Takes On Water In US Debut

It was a disappointing weekend opening for 'Battleship'.  The movie brought in almost $15 million less than what the studio expected.

Despite a star studded cast, and a summer blockbuster feel, 'Battleship' sunk in it's US debut this weekend.  Is anyone surprised a movie based on a board game, and a boring one at that, didn't draw a crowd?

It could actually turn out to be a pretty big failure if the movie can't produce enough money to make back its massive budget.  Universal executives were hoping for an opening of around $40 million, according to Yahoo, but it fell far below that making just $25 million.

As it turns out, it takes more than a battleship to take out Marvels 'The Avengers', which took in another $55 million over the weekend.  Those numbers once again landed it in the top spot and brings it's total to $457 million.
