The 2012 Summer Olympics officially kicked into high gear in London this evening (July 27). The celebration began with the opening ceremony, which was flavored with plenty of hearty rock ‘n’ roll, including a high-octane, unforgettable performance by the Arctic Monkeys. The band performed their chart-topping song ‘I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor’ along with their cover of the Beatles‘ ‘Come Together.’
Lokesh Simon James hit Bliss Cabaret, a strip joint in Clearwater, back in March, spending three hours and $600. That’s a pretty steep bill and probably bought him a couple of lap dances and drinks, along with some tips. No big deal, right? Wrong. When he checked his credit card statement a few days later, he discovered a $50,000 charge from the strip club.
Guitar god Zakk Wylde is a proud papa again. Wylde and his lovely wife Barbaranne welcomed their fourth child, son Sabbath Page Wielandt Wylde, into the world last night (July 4). That’s quite the rock ‘n’ roll name, isn’t it?
Rock ‘n’ roll and fashion are forever linked. Most self-respecting rockers sport t-shirts (or at least patches!) with their favorite band logos. Some even wear band tattoos, which are an accessory of the more permanent sort. Musicians often do the same. Now, Metallica frontman James Hetfield, who has always boasted an evolving yet infinitely cool look, which has settled into a rockabilly style at this point in his career, is taking it a step further, by partnering with Sutro Eyewear to craft a limited edition pair of shades.
Green Day‘s ‘ ¡Uno!’ ‘¡Dos!’ ‘¡Tre!’ album trilogy is launching in September, continuing with the second album in November and wrapping in January of next year. The California band will set the table for this ambitious and much anticipated undertaking with the first single, called ‘Oh Love.’
The 10th annual tribute to the late, great Alice in Chains vocalist Layne Staley, who passed away in April 2002 at the tender age of 34 after years of addiction struggles, is set for this August in the Seattle/Tacoma area. It’s a massive celebration, as five days of events and performances have been planned to remember the singer whose definitive voice marked the grunge era of rock ‘n’ roll.
