According to reports from Marco Vidal, the head of the national police force’s Gang Suppression Unit, McAfee has been named as the prime suspect in the murder of fellow American expatriate Gregory Faull. Vidal said that events are still sketchy, but Faull was shot in his home in San Pedro Town on the island of Ambergris Caye with a 9mm gun. A shell casing was recovered from the scene, and there was no forced entry.

Residents and neighbors of Paul and McAfee say they had been arguing for sometime. Faull had also filed a report with the local Mayor’s office about McAfee over him firing off guns and acting in a “roguish” manner, with a final encounter involving McAfee’s dogs barking and disturbing the neighborhood.

A recent article posted on Gizmodo about McAfee before the incident, tells of how police raided his compound earlier and found a cache of guns and ammo along with $20,000 in cash, and a chemistry lab. But the guns were all found to be legal and and the lab was tested and found to be not producing drugs, but an herbal antibacterial compound. They initially arrested McAfee and his body guards, but had to release them all as they couldn’t find anything to hold him on. Police are now looking for McAfee to question him about the incident, but McAfee has disappeared. Faull’s laptop and phone were found to be missing from his home. It’s not known if McAfee has fled the country, but a report filed on Wired’s website suggests that he hasn’t and has been in contact with the author, Joshua Davis buy phone, saying he is innocent and the the Belize government is attempting to frame him for a crime he didn’t commit. According to the report McAfee saw the police coming and buried himself in sand near by using a cardboard box over his head so he could breathe. He has since been been out of sight contacting Davis by phone from time to time.
