When I first saw the commercials for Ancestry.com I thought, what a cool idea. Considering we have endless information at our finger tips with the ‘world wide web’, why can’t we find out anything and everything about our family tree? But after the spot I saw this morning something made me question how accurate this site can be.

The guy in the most recent ad I saw said that thanks to Ancestry.com, he found out he was related to the Wright brothers. Wow, how interesting. At this point in the commercial he questions who dropped the ball in his family by not letting everyone know that they were related to this world renowned duo. So then the conspiracy theorist in me jumped out and said “Hey dude, you just got jobbed!” Really, how ludicrous is it that somewhere down the line some ancestor wanted to cut the Wright brothers out of their family tree.

So now I say hey, maybe this is just the 2011 version of 900 numbers and tarot card reading. Why not? Everything evolves. Scams do too. I’m not saying it’s a scam, and I’m not saying that it’s not. But I wouldn’t be surprised if I found out that Miss Cleo was a stockholder.
