Illegally park in a handicapped parking space in Albany and you just might end up with a nice-sized ticket on your windshield.

The Albany Handicap Parking Initiative started in 1994 and has since had 52 enforcement patrols, including a most recent one that netted 48 tickets. In total, those recent tickets equal out to $7,989.00 in fines that are due from the offenders.

Since it's inception, the patrols have issued 2,512 summonses totaling $301,679.00 in fines due. The patrols look for people who are parked in handicapped spaces that shouldn't be; i.e. those without disabilities or placards. So the next time you park, even for a quick second, double check the spot.
