Albany Area Olympians Head To London In Hopes Of Bringing Home Some Gold

Nick Delpopolo, Facebook

The 2012 London Olympic Games are set to begin this Sunday, and a couple of Albany area guys are on their way to compete for the gold. Nick Delpopolo and Kyle Vashkulat are doing something that most of us only dream of. They are representing the USA in the Olympic games. Both of them are competing in an event that’s pretty unique – judo.

This is an event that the USA has never brought home gold in judo, and these two are hoping to end that streak. Their coach, Jason Morris from Glenville, has won the silver medal in the Olympics. Perhaps some bragging rights if they do grab some gold.

Delpopolo will compete on July 30th, while Vashkulat will have to wait until August 2nd to throw down a judo chop. We will be watching anxiously in hopes of them bringing home some Olympic treasure. We are very proud of them either way.
