With a career spanning forty-plus years, former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley kicked off his current tour at PlayStation Theater in New York City.

“It’s good to be home” said the Bronx native. Frehley took us back to 1978 with his self-titled KISS solo record as he cranked out “Rip It Out.”  Then the “Spaceman” himself played another solid solo tune, “Toys.” Fans were treated to his rendition of Thin Lizzy’s “Emerald,” which also appears on Frehley’s latest covers album, Origins, Vol. 1.

KISS fans rejoiced as “Parasite” and “Love Gun” filled the venue. Even though Frehley is the main act, guitarist Richie Scarlet and bassist Chris Wyse were engaging with fans and unleashed infectious energy. The band as a whole shows a fun and vibrant camaraderie onstage.

Fans surely got into the “New York Groove” as Ace performed his signature cover the Hello tune. Wyse also played a pummeling bass solo and Scarlet provided vocals for “2 Young 2 Die.” The energy only heightened as Frehley delivered a blistering guitar solo in between KISS favorites “Shock Me” and “Cold Gin.” That alone would be enough to end the night, right?

Not without the KISS anthem “Detroit Rock City,” which everyone sang aloud to. The night ended with “Deuce” off of KISS’ self-titled debut in 1974.
