Mariano Rivera once again reaches the history books as the Yankees take the series from Toronto.

Yesterday the New York Yankees picked up a nice win over the Toronto Blue Jays, 7-3.  So that gave the Yanks the series against Toronto, but even bigger was that long time Yankee Mariano Rivera becomes the first player to ever reach 1,000 appearances while on the same team.

Just another notch on the belt for this guy.  Mo already owns the title of most post season saves than any other pitcher and also has more World Series saves as well.  A first ballot hall of famer for sure.  He is the 15th player all time to make 1,000 appearances but to do it all on the same team is almost unheard of, especially these days.

Number 42 has become one of the most beloved Yankees of all time and deservingly so.  He's been with the club since 1995 and will hands down end his career as the best closer of all time.  One of the most exciting moments of any Yankee game is when you hear the intro to "Enter Sandman" and Mo starts trotting to the mound.  The place goes absolutely insane.  A very cool milestone and I'm glad that I was here to see it. Always humble, after the game Mo had this to say:

It's a blessing to be able to be on the same team and do that. It's not too often you see that. But the most important thing is that we won

-Mariano Rivera

Mo has just 2 more appearances to go before he ties fellow Yankee great Goose Gossage for 14th place all time for most appearances.  Yankee manager Joe Girardi said that it just goes to show you how great he actually is.  Girardi also says he remembers when he first caught for Mo back in 1996.  I don't know if Girardi knew it at the time, but he would be catching for one of the best all time.  If he didn't know then, he certainly knows now.
