Recently Margaret Howe Lovatt had revealed some very shocking details regarding a NASA-funded experiment with dolphins she was deeply involved in during the 1960s.In an interview with the BBC, Margaret revealed that Peter the dolphin, which she was working so closely with in an experiment, would become distracted from the work. Peter the dolphin had urges that interfered with their work and Margaret decided there was only one way to deal with said urges.

“…he would rub himself on my knee, my foot or my hand and I allowed that… as long as it wasn’t too rough.”

“… it was very precious, it was very gentle… like an itch, just get rid of that, we’ll scratch it and move on…” - Margaret Howe Lovatt, BBC

Well, who’s really shocked here? I mean it was the '60s after all. To my knowledge, you would look like a real "square" if you were alive in the 1960s and NOT romantically involved with a dolphin.
