I didn't realize she was a UAlbany Alum but it's kind of cool to see someone who has some Capital Region roots doing big things!

From 2006 to 2008 Nora Lum, who goes my her stage name Awkwaffina, was majoring in journalism and women's studies at UAlbany and interning at the Times Union. Fast forward  few years and she is now an accomplished rapper with a viral hit (btw, that video/song is a bit NSFW so click responsibly) and actress with a couple of major movie roles under her belt.

She has appeared in films such as Neighbors 2, Dude, and Paradise Hills. In this last year alone though she has starred in two major box office hits. First as Constance, the pick pocketing NYC street kid, in Ocean's 8 along side Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Rihanna, and Helena Bonahm Carter. Most recently she starred as Goh Peik Lin, the college friend of the lead character in Crazy Rich Asians.

Awkwafina bring the laughs too the big screen pretty regularly now but this Saturday, October 6th she is bring them into everyone's homes on the small screen when she hosts Saturday Night Live on NBC!
