Happy Birthday today (Aug. 21) to rocker Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath). He’s 66. Also celebrating is frontman Serj Tankian of System of a Down (51) and in remembrance, punk legend Joe Strummer of the Clash would have been 66.

Known as “The Voice of Rock”, Glenn Hughes played with Deep Purple for a time and also had a brief stint fronting Black Sabbath in the mid 80’s. Hughes fronted supergroup Black Country Communion from 2009-2013. He also been touring as singer of the band Kings of Chaos since 2013 and formed a new band called California Breed in late 2013 with drummer Jason Bonham and guitarist Andrew Watt. California breed has since broke up after releasing just one album. 2016 saw Glenn Hughes inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Deep Purple and Black Country Communion also regrouped and released a new album. Glenn Hughes will be performing classic Deep Purple Live when he plays The Chance in Poughkeepsie on Sept. 11. Cheers to the great Glenn Hughes on his birthday today!
