Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour tonight before you go to bed, as daylight savings ends Sunday morning at 2am.  We get an extra hour of sleep or if your out at a show or a bar, you'll get an extra hour to party!  It's also a good time to change the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors as well as check an emergency preparedness kit. Clocks move ahead again in March, so why do we have daylight savings time?

Blame Ben Franklin, he was the one who came up with the idea of daylight savings time in 1784, so the farmers when rising early could use the morning sunlight instead of candles.

However, the invention of DST was mainly credited to William Willett in 1905 when he came up with the idea of moving the clocks forward in the summer to take advantage of the daylight in the mornings and the lighter evenings.  Then in World War I many of the allies adopted daylight savings time to save energy for the war effort.  Many countries reverted back to standard time after the war and it wasnt until World War II that DST would return again for good.

Enjoy your extra hour of sleep tonight, and say thank you to the colonist who wanted the national bird to be a turkey.
