The Metal Box is a weekly web series posted each Friday where we discuss all things hard rock and heavy metal: news, videos, interviews, live concerts and more.

This week, we talk with former Queensryche frontman Geoff Tate in an exclusive Metal Box interview discussing his current Geoff Tate the Whole Story Ryche Acoustic Tour 2017. The tour plays several New York area dates this week. Watch the interview above.

Queensryche rose to fame in the 1980’s. The band has sold over 20 million records worldwide and gained critical acclaim for their 1988 concept album Operation: Mindcrime. The band’s follow up album Empire in 1990 went triple platinum and featured the hit single “Silent Lucidity”. The band earned two Grammy Award nominations for “Silent Lucidity” 1992 in the categories of Best Rock Song and Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group. Geoff Tate formed the band Operation: Mindcrime in 2014 and it features Geoff on lead vocals, along with Disturbed bassist John Moyer and former AC/DC drummer Simon Wright. After leaving Queensryche in 2012, Geoff Tate and his former bandmates were involved in a legal battle over the Queensryche name. Following the settlement, Tate was granted exclusive performance rights to the classic Queensryche album Operation: Mindcrime and his former bandmates retained all rights to the Queensryche name.
