Happy Birthday today (Feb. 8) to Motley Crue frontman Vince Neil. He's 57. Other rockers celebrating include bassist Will Turpin of Collective Soul (47) and bassist Dave Farrell of Linkin Park (41).

Motley Crue formed out of L.A. in 1981 with bassist Nikki Sixx and drummer Tommy Lee, singer Vince Neil and guitarist Mick Mars. The band has sold over 100 million albums worldwide, including 25 million in the US alone. Motley Crue released their self-recorded debut Too Fast For Love in 1981 on their own label and would re-release the album after signing with Elektra Records. They released their breakthrough album Shout at The Devil in 1983, followed by Theater of Pain in 1985, Girls, Girls, Girls in 1987, and Dr. Feelgood in 1989. Dr. Feelgood would become Motley Crue’s most successful album spending 114 weeks on the charts and selling over 6 million copies in the U.S. The compilation Decade of Decadence was released in 1991. Many other releases would follow with a Farewell tour being announced in January of 2014.  Motley Crue played their final show ever at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on New Years Eve (Dec. 31) 2015.

I saw the final Motley Crue  tour three times and all the shows were a lot of fun. Motley Crue have put and end to a nearly 35 year career as ‘hair metal’ legends of the LA's Sunset Strip. The band announced plans for their for their retirement and final tour in January of 2014. ‘All Bad Things Must Come to An End: The Final Tour has featured Alice Cooper as opener for all dates. A dvd documenting their final show was released. Vince Neil continues to tour with his solo band playing the Motley Crue hits. Cheers to Vince Neil on his birthday today!
