Listen, I have lived in a state that doesn't celebrate Halloween on, Halloween and there are definitely some pros and cons to the date change.

Some parents have been feeling a little inconvenienced by the fact that Halloween doesn't always happen to fall on a weekend and have started an online petition to have the holiday moved to the last Saturday in October. Quite a few parents actually, at the time of this writing over 26,000 people have signed the petition.

I mean, I get it. If you work the average 9-5 Mon-Fri. It would be nice to have a whole day to prepare for an evening of dressing up and trick or treating. But Halloween is on October 31t for a reason (as are most holidays) if you would like to know why it is celebrated on the 31st you can read all about it here. However, I am not here to explain why it is celebrated on the 31st. I am here to tell you that I have lived in a reality where Halloween was not on Halloween and although I thought it was super weird at the time in retrospect it wasn't all that bad. Only, probably not for the same reason people want it to be on a Saturday.

I spent sometime living in Central PA and there they do not celebrate Halloween on October 31st. Only the have it on like a random Tuesday or Thursday ( I forget which one and actually the date varies from town to town). That is because they want to make sure the kids aren't out running a muck all night so they get like 3 hours in the middle of the week to get their trick or treating in.

However, since each town has a different day you end up with families traveling from town to town to take advantage of the different days so the kids tend to end up getting two or more Halloween's. Plus, on top of the truck or treats and mall trick or treating each little town has their very own Halloween Parade! So legit there is a parade or 3 every day throughout the month of October so really it's like Halloween all month long!

Personally, I think that unless we are going to do Halloween celebrations all month long comparable to Pennsylvania I think Halloween should stay on October 31st. Not everything in life is the most convenience and sometime a little fun is worth being inconvenienced. Plus, as a childless adult who is down to hand out candy and make sure the kids have a good time I don't want give up my Saturday every Halloween.

If you are super set on signing the petition and changing the date you can jump on that bandwagon here.
