Hurricane Sandy

The official start of "hurricane season" season begins June 1st and goes through November. If you think the giant storms are becoming more frequent, well, they are. And according to Tuesday's release by NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, they expect the trend to continue in 2022.

Yesterday's 12-12-12 benefit concert for Hurricane Sandy relief raised over $30 million dollars, but it wasn't all good. We're still cringing for Bobby Moynihan's awkward appearance as his 'SNL' character "Drunk Uncle," for example.

During tonight's 12-12-12 Concert for Sandy Relief at New York City's Madison Square Garden, some amazing, you-had-to-be-there pairings took place on the venue's historic stage. Case in point: Roger Waters of Pink Floyd fame performing 'Comfortably Numb' with Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder.

Today's date marks the very last time that we will have three consecutive matching numbers: 12-12-12. One way we are commemorating this is by helping those who were and continue to be affected by October's hurricane Sandy. Over a dozen musical acts will be coming together to put on a benefit show at New York City's Madison Square Garden.

Anheuser Busch, which brings us the all-mighty Budweiser, has shut down a beer line in an effort to help Hurricane Sandy Victims.  The Cartersville, Georgia Brewery has switched from producing cans of beer to packaging cans of water with a goal of shipping one million cans of water to New York and New Jersey.

Linkin Park and their Music for Relief organization are hard at work once again following Hurricane Sandy's destruction in both Haiti and the U.S. last week. Co-vocalist Mike Shinoda is raising awareness for Music for Relief's efforts, which will provide assistance to those in need in the aftermath of the natural disaster.

Technology has changed the way we live and for the most part, for the better.  However, when the power goes out such as it has in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, our technology becomes useless.  Phone batteries die, laptops and pads become coasters and our connection to the outside world is lost.  In this time of need, New Yorkers have reverted back to the '80's and have found solace in pay phones. Two days after Hurricane Sandy ripped through the East Coast, many residents remain without basic supplies like food, clean water and shelter. Fortunately for the victims of this storm, there are many organizations out there determined to provide assistance to those affected by the hurricane.

According to a report from the Village Voice, New York City beer and liquor distributors have noticed an increase in alcohol sales in preparation of Hurricane Sandy, with some of the biggest increases including rum sales, making it possible that people are going to be making hurricanes during the hurricane...
