Godsmack frontman Sully Erna will be showcasing his lighter side on his forthcoming second solo effort, Hometown Life. With the title track already out, the singer has released the second taste of the record by way of the lyric video for "Different Kind of Tears."

The song features gentle acoustic guitar strumming, allowing room for Erna's deep croon to invoke reflective and somber moods as ink meets paper, scrawling out the lyrics to the song in a notebook. Taking the structure of a power ballad, "Different Kind of Tears" picks up in intensity with grand chord progressions and an uplifting second chorus before an electric guitar solo signals the bridge.

About two-thirds of the way through, the refrain "It ain't easy believing in believing" sits lower in the mix as Erna begins to wail, "It's a different kind of hurt / It's a different kind of pain..." This buildup leads back into the chorus, releasing the tension built up by the dueling lines.

Speaking about the song, Erna stated, "Honestly, this is one of my favorite songs on the album. I had the pleasure of writing this track with songwriter/producer Zac Maloy (Tim McGraw, Carrie Underwood). I love the melodies and the chorus because of the vulnerability." Detailing more about the lyrics, the singer added, "It's one of those things, when we're in pain, we don't think anyone can understand how bad we hurt, how deep it goes. I try to write generalized enough for people to be able to translate these lyrics and thoughts to their own lives, help them through their tough times. Music is a gift. It's there to help us heal."

Hometown Life is available for pre-order at Erna's webstore and digitally through iTunes. The album will be out Sept. 30 through BMG.
