It was a busy Tuesday afternoon for State Police in Clifton Park as they were called to Cardinal Court after reports of a man carrying a rifle.

When police arrived they encountered Douglas D. Stewart III who was armed with a .30 caliber rifle. According to reports, the officers attempted to talk Stewart into dropping his weapon. He did not comply and a deputy shot the man in the abdomen.

Stewart was taken in for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery while officers investigate what lead the man to stand in his front yard holding a loaded weapon.

There is an underlying matter we believe in the preceding days that may have precipitated this event, but right now that's premature - State Police Capt. Steven James to News10
