After months and months of exhausting trade talks the New York Knicks have finally brought Carmelo Anthony to the big apple.

For weeks the New York Knicks and their fans have thought that they were going to be burned by yet another All-Star NBA player when it looked as though the  New Jersey Nets were the front runner to pick up Carmelo Anthony.  As of yesterday Carmelo Anthony is in fact a New York Knick, Denver traded Melo to NY in a three team deal involving the Minnesota Timberwolves.

So not only do the Knicks end up with Carmelo Anthony, they have also landed Chauncy Billups, Shelden Williams, Anthony Carter and Renaldo Balkmen.  Billups adds a lot to the point guard position and Willams adds a bit of size.  The Knicks send Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, Ray Felton Timofey Mozgov and a first round draft pick for 2014 to the Nuggets.  Once the trade had gone through Denver head coach George Karl said:

I'm glad it's over. I'm glad it's an opportunity to reinvent. I think everybody handled it as classy as you could handle it. There's some sadness to it, there always will be.

With Minnesota, the Knicks are finally able to get rid of Eddy Curry and his contract.  They send him and Anthony Randolph to the Timberwolves in exchange for Corey Brewer.  Also the Nuggets have told a source at ESPN that they may not keep Gallinari and that the Nets are interested in him.  Other potential homes for Gallinari are with The Clippers, Cavaliers and Raptors, all who could give Denver draft picks in exchange.

Melo will hopefully be set by this Wednesday when the Knicks host the Milwaukee Bucks.  I applaud New York in finally doing what needed to be done in order to land a super star who can get them in the playoffs and hopefully far into them.   It has been a long time since The Knicks have seen any regular season success let alone post season.  Anthony is one of the final puzzle pieces to return this franchise to greatness. As a Boston Celtic fan, this trade makes me very nervous.
