It has been over 2 years since Velvet Revolver decided to part ways with lead singer Scott Weiland and the guys have still not lined up a lead singer as of yet.   Slash said that they have "moved leaps and bounds" in the process of finding their new singer and we should be hearing an announcement from the band sometime in January.

Slash also added that the new singer is going to bring a heavier sound to the band.  Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum said that the singer they have in mind is a known guy in the industry and is younger and stronger than Weiland.  Sorum told VH1 classic that if all goes well with this candidate the band will record their third album and tour this year.

I know that Slash is a big fan of Alter Bridge's Myles Kennedy however he is currently very involved with Alter Bridge.  I was watching an episode of VH1 Classic's That Metal Show and Slash and Kennedy were guests.  Slash said that he hoped to work more with Kennedy in the future.  Kennedy was the touring vocalist for Slash in support of his solo album.  Other singers that have auditioned for the part are Royston Langdon of Spacehog and Frankie Perez from Scars on Broadway.
