Happy Birthday today (June 3) to Kerry King of Slayer. The guitarist is 54. Other rockers celebrating include singer Doro Pesch (54) and Ian Hunter (Mott the Hoople) who turns 79.

Kerry King co-founded Slayer with Jeff Hanneman in 1981 and became the main songwriter for the band after Hanneman's death. Known as one of the "big 4" in thrash metal along with Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax, Slayer first rose to fame with the release of the 1986 album Reign in Blood. The band has released twelve studio albums, two live albums, and a box set over the course of their career. The band's last album Repentless was released in September 2015 and it was their highest charting album debuting at number for on the Billboard 200 chart. Slayer are currently on their farewell tour which will play Times Union Center in Albany on Aug. 1 with Lamb of God, Anthrax and Testament. Cheers to Kerry King on his birthday today!
