There are some epic rivalries in professional sports and one of the best gets it's 2011 debut starting today.

Throughout the years there have been some fantastic sports rivalries.  Celtics/Lakers, Notre Dame/USC, North Carolina/Duke and of course the New York Yankees and The Boston Red Sox.  I think that it is arguably the greatest rivalry in all of sports.  There aren't two teams that want to beat each other more and not just in the post season, but the regular season too.  The fans are into it and even the casual baseball fan loves to watch these games heat up.

This weekend that rivalry is renewed as the Sox get set to open thier home, Fenway park.  What better home opener could you ask for?  This is huge for Boston too, since they are 0-6 to start the season.  It also makes me nervous as a Yankee fan because the Red Sox are super hungry for that first win.  The action begins this afternoon at 2pm with Phil Hughes on the mound for the bombers and John Lackey for the Sox.  Both pitchers are still looking for win number one.  Phil Hughes is looking for a bit of redemption after giving up some big hits against Detroit.  Lackey also in search of redemption after giving up 9 runs to Texas on opening weekend.

They will also be playing on Saturday afternoon 1pm and Sunday night at 8pm.  You can catch all the Yankee action over on our sister station ESPN Radio 104.5 the team.  I can't wait to see things unfold.  I hope the Yanks can snag 2 wins in Fenway.
