If your Memorial Day Weekend plans take you either a short distance down the Northway or a long extended drive; be prepared for extra traffic.

According to AAA, most Americans will do their travel by vehicle this weekend - that's up 0.25% from last year. 31.2 million people are expected to hit the roadways for Memorial Day trips while only 2.3 million are expected to fly.

Albany's average gas price is around $3.605, according to GasBuddy.com, with the national average around $3.66. AAA reports the national average is down 2 cents from this time last year.

AAA says the average journey this year will be 690 miles, up from last year's 642. The average cost of a trip this year is $659, down 6% from 2012.

With that said: Leave earlier and give yourself some extra time. If AAA's reports are correct, you will hit a few more traffic jams or congested areas than normal. Remember, you're not the only one with somewhere to be. So please be patient, be kind, and stay alert.
