Turns out no one is safe from PETA, not even fake video game characters.  The animal rights group has decided to pick a battle with Nintendo because of his use of the fur raccoon suit in the game.  Really?

Nintendo launched their latest chapter of the Mario Bros for the Nintendo DS system, Super Mario 3D Land, which hit stores on Sunday.  Most of us have loved Mario for close to 30 years now, but the beloved video game character is facing an opponent that not even a turtle shell can take out.  PETA.

PETA is angry with the game for the Tanookie character in the game, or better known as the raccoon suit Mario.  It was always one of my favorite powers to get.  Not sure why it gives you the ability to fly, but it was cool none the less.   Here is what PETA had to say on the situation.  Brace yourself for stupidity.

Tanooki may be just a "suit" in Mario games, but by wearing the skin of an animal, Mario is sending the message that it's OK to wear fur.

Really PETA?  This is your big argument?  I think PETA has run out of actual animal abuse to target.  I give credit to those ASPCA commercials with Sarah McLachlan.  After watching those everyone wants to go adopt every animal at the local shelter.
