Black Sabbath co-founder, drummer Bill Ward, has joined the ranks of multi-platform metal men and how he' s ready to bring his art to a Los Angeles audience.

On Aug. 25, Ward will read poems from his recently released book and vinyl set Absence of Corners. The event will double as an exhibition for Ward's innovative art and will take place at 7PM at The Last Book Store.

Ward is an active participant in "rhythm-on-canvas," an art form that uses "drumsticks and rhythmic accessories that produce light, much like a painter utilizing brushes and oils," Once he has preliminary images, Ward develops the patterns into abstract visual artwork, reports Blabbermouth.net.

"When I'm working on new ideas, musically much of what's played is guided by a visual appearance or shape," said Ward. "Since my early childhood, I've played drums in visuals as well as sound. When I write, there's always an image, sometimes a color attached to what's being created. I am delighted with the captured expressions — from my head and my heart. Their arrival onto canvas is beautiful."

For the art exhibit, Ward selected 19 works then recorded an album of poetry to provide a new dimension to the viewer's experience. Then, he compiled poetry and spoken word to include in his book and vinyl set Absence of Corners.

Only 50 book and vinyl sets will be available for purchase at the Los Angeles reading. Why so few? The first edition of Absence of Corners was limited to 200 signed sets, each of which is numbered, stamped and furnished with a certificate of authenticity by art publisher SceneFour, which helped Ward explore to the rhythm-on-canvas technique.

SceneFour has previously worked on art projects with other well-known drummers, including Rick Allen of Def Leppard, Mike Mangini from Dream Theater, Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mikkey Dee from Motorhead, Gene Hoglan from Testament ex-Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo and former Megadeth member Nick Menza.
