Be aware if you are driving the Northway or other area roads around the Capital Region or that fact New York State. For the next week,  State Police are targeting motorists who are using cellphone and other electronic devices while driving.

This is the 2nd Operation Hang Up campaign. The first one took place over the Thanksgiving Holiday and netted some 800 distracted drivers tickets. The stage police want to send a message. ' Keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel.'

Superintendent of the New York State Police Joseph A. D'Amico said, "If you use a hand-held cell phone or are texting while driving, you should expect to receive a ticket from a New York State Trooper. Electronic devices have become commonplace in our lives, but they have no place in the hands of a driver. Operation Hang Up is a focused enforcement effort that will reinforce to the motoring public that these violations are taken seriously and will not be permitted."

The second campaign begins today and ends on Sunday April 28th.
