New Top Gun Movie Will Still Have Maverick

Will Tom Cruise really be playing Maverick in the new Top Gun movie?

Don't take my word for it, folks, David Ellison, the CEO of Skydance all but confirmed Tom Cruise's role in the film. Ellison revealed Maverick will have a significant role in the new movie. "There is no ‘Top Gun’ without Maverick, and it is going to be Maverick playing Maverick," he said.

"It is very much a world we live in today where it’s drone technology and fifth generation fighters… It’s really exploring the end of an era of dogfighting and fighter pilots and what that culture is today," said Ellison about the movie itself.

There's no question the nature of our air force has changed since the eighties. Drone warfare has become the most important part of our activity in the sky, and the classic dogfighting you saw in Top Gun has taken a back seat. It will be interesting to see how Maverick adopts to the change in warfare.
