I was a big fan of Spartacus: Blood and Sand and was devastated when I heard that lead man Andy Whitfield was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.  The disease was not only going to take a toll on his health, but also on a show that became very popular.  Starz has decided to move forward with a new Spartacus for this coming season.

You might recognize some of the cast returning for the long anticipated second season of SpartacusSpartacus: Vengeance. There is one man missing from the cast however and that is Andy Whitfield, who played the title character in the first season, Blood and Sand.  Whitfield is still battling non-Hodgkins lymphoma.  They have given the role to Australian actor Liam McIntyre, who takes over for Whitfield in this new season.

I loved the first two Spartacus series' that Starz put together, and I am hoping that McIntyre can pull off the Spartacus role that Whitfield made so likeable.  It is set to premiere on Starz this January.
